How My First Trip To The Mountains Changed Me

Just like every other nature lover who also loves to visit new places, my friends and I made a plan to visit Kasol, a small, dreamy village in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh (this was before the place stuffed with the “wannabe hipster” crowd).

We did the regular routine - planning things out, making a budget, daydreaming about the good “stuff” we would get over there and obviously about the view of the beautiful, almost luminous snow covered tips of the Himalayas.

People say travel is not just about the destination but also the journey which is very true, especially when you visit Himachal. That gush of cold air you feel on your face while heading uphills and experiencing the twists and turns of NH21 is an experience in itself. You find solace in the sound of a flowing river, warmth in the bonfire and a feeling of happiness from being away from the rest of the world.

What I love most about the places and people this area is that more than aesthetics and artificial beauty, they focus on comfort. From cozy cafes to hippie stalls along the streets, you’ll find everything to make you at ease.

I remember once when I was trekking with my friends in search of a waterfall cafe in Tosh (another village near Kasol).

I remember that very moment whenever I’m nervous now, and I start feeling a lot better. The relationship that you build with yourself here is something that everyone should do.

The best thing about mountains is that they make you think over things which you really want to think about. No wonder so many nature lovers, reader, writers, artists and music lovers flock here. You meet the best kind of people here who share the urge to travel.

I go there once every year to chill and unwind, take all the pressure and worries, dump them all there and rejuvenate in the lap of nature. Seeing the simple life of people here helps me gain perspective. I have visited Himachal thrice now, but I guess, one just cannot get enough of this place.
