Stop Wasting Time Making Decisions Based On Money

When it comes to making decisions in your life, what do you find yourself chasing after most — the money or your dreams?

So often people get this idea in their heads that money will buy them happiness. The problem is, money only buys things.

Sure, it can give you a sense of freedom and fuel you with temporary happiness each time that you buy the next new, shiny thing. But, have you tried going after what you really want in life and removing money from the equation?

Now that we’ve taken money out of the picture, there’s one other thing I need to mention when it comes to making decisions…

STOP overthinking things!

While working with Shea Hillenbrand for Success in Your City, he talked all about his professional baseball career. He told me that you have to make decisions fast in the game and that you can’t spend your time thinking because when you think, you fail. You just have to do things.

It’s the same thing for business. Whether something is happening on the fly or you have a big decision to make, you have to stop relying on passing time to make it easier.

All that time that you spend trying to come up with the “right” solution is time that you could put towards focusing on something else.

I found out that not only do successful entrepreneurs make decisions quickly and run with them, but they very rarely go back on them. A lot of people sit back and wonder, “Should I do this? Should I do that?”

By the time they make a decision it’s too late and opportunities are often missed.

So, how do you strictly act off of impulse and passion?

You need to make instinctive decisions that aren’t tied solely to money. What is it that you really want? What are you doing now, and would you be doing it if there was no money involved?

I get it, when you are just getting started there are certain things you have to do to build up your foundation.

No, you won’t always feel passionate or inspired by the decisions you have to make or the actions you need to take. But, once you reach a certain point, it’s important to not get caught up in just making a buck.

There are so many people out there with money, but they’re miserable because they don’t do what they love.

Think about where you’re at right now in your life and your career. Do you find yourself making decisions based exclusively on money? Are you taking on clients that you know deep down aren’t a good fit for you?

You will enjoy your work a lot more, and you will become known for that specific niche or area of work instead of taking on anything that comes your way when blinded by dollar signs.

I have a friend that does marketing primarily for plumbers, and because of his focused niche, all of the plumbers know that he’s their go-to guy.

This is his core area of business and it’s completely black and white — do I take this person or not? Well, are they a plumber?

For me, I apply the same kind of filtering process.

If I’m going to work with someone, I want them to be passionate, great at what they do, and possess a bigger WHY than just money.

When you choose to make decisions that are motivated by something bigger than money, you’re going to become more wealthy in the long run, produce higher quality work, and live a more fulfilled life.

My challenge for you is to make decisions that aren’t simply based on a dollar amount. Take part in the things you truly believe in, admire, and want to be a part of.

Don’t waste precious time pondering through all of your options. Follow your gut and act NOW. I promise it’s worth it!
