The Crackling I

The trickery of the mind’s past masking the moment

Sitting silently as the fire crackles,
ambient noises of
Jumping sparks
Holiday snarks
Narcissistic sharks
Preying on the vulnerable
to make their own pain
have a little less bark.

The shame that grows older
The trauma stored in their pumping hearts.
Trying to escape
creating torqued tension in one’s
shoulders, necks, and arms.
The clenching jaw of the fighting ego
feeding us a narrative that we have to be the hero.

But who are we saving and why?
Maybe it’s a masking that our brain feeds us
in attempt to comprehend the reality
that confronts the eye.
A distractive tale told
that we hold to allow this self we
know as I to remain intact,
fighting and struggling to live a lie.

No more!
the heart belts out
my fire within
burns with a passion
to empower the soul
to fire in this moment of action.
