Best practices after recovering from Covid

Should you still wear a mask and get the vaccine? What should you watch out for? How to recover your strength and immunity?

If you or a family member has recovered from Covid, congrats on your recovery. Some people are worried about all the hype there is about black fungus, Long Covid etc. while others believe they’re invincible and don’t need to wear a mask or take the vaccination anymore.

The best approach lies in a good mix of caution, awareness, taking steps to build back your strength and immunity, and definitely get vaccinated if you have the opportunity.

Don’t stop following the safety protocols that you were applying before you got Covid. This is because a very rare number of people who have recovered from Covid caught the virus a second time. Scientists still haven’t found out conclusively how long immunity lasts. A recovered person could get reinfected (in very rare cases) and spread the virus without realizing it.

It is important to follow all lockdown guidelines and safety protocols like social distancing and wearing a mask in public and indoors when you’re around people who you don’t live with.

Several hospitals are offering sets of tests to people who have recovered from Covid. Please consult your doctor on whether any of these tests are necessary for you.

Covid survivors should take the vaccination when they have the opportunity. Like we’ve written above, it is hard to predict how long the immunity against Covid lasts and vaccination is the best way to increase antibodies against Covid.

Monitor yourself for symptoms of infections that some surviors of Covid have contracted. Be aware of the symptoms without panicking about developing another disease.

Some people may develop Long Covid — a term used to describe persisting or reoccurrence of symptoms of Covid long after recovery from the infection.

Long Covid can also impact kids.

Don’t panic and monitor yourself and your kids for these symptoms and communicate with your doctor periodically.

Follow a healthy balanced diet, workout regularly as much as your strength and stamina allows after recovery and build a positive attitude. While this sounds cliched, this is the most important advice that doctors give that people tend to overlook. A healthy and positive lifestyle (within the constraints of lockdowns and such) is important for recovering to your pre-Covid levels.
