The Influence Celebrities have on our everyday life

Celebrities have a very evident and profound impact on society. People elevate celebrities on a pedestal and often think of them as godly or divine beings. However, at the end of the day, they are just normal and very ordinary human beings with either appreciated talents or looks.

People find themselves mimicking style, trends and even the behavior of those in the limelight. Somehow people are more inclined to buy a “Kylie Lip Kit” than a drugstore brand just because Kylie Jenner wears it. In fact, her lip kits sell out in minutes, even though they are proven to be made with the exact same product as a Jeffree Star lip gloss which is nearly twenty dollars cheaper. Nevertheless, this proves how people will blindly and ignorantly mimic celebrities to be sure they are fitting in with the latest trends. Marketing agents strategically hire celebrities to advertise their products, which furthers this “following” trend. It is almost impossible to turn on television and not see a commercial with a famous person it it, or to scroll through Instagram and not see a celebrity advertising a product, that not to mention they are being paid a fortune to advertise. Yet, people still fall into the trap of imitation, which essentially detracts from our sense of individuality.

I personally fall into this trap as I “stalk” the Instagrams of famous people. So even though I am not trying to acquire Kim Kardashian or Lady Gaga’s wardrobe , I still am contributing to this nature as I view people like Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez as “perfect.”

At the end of the day, they are just human beings, and I believe that the worship and praisal of celebrities had gotten out of hand to a degree.
