Berlin Air BnB

My husband and I got thinking the other day about our next vacation spot. I have always wanted a trip outside of the country somewhere, and he has always wanted to return to Germany. His father served as a US marine and was stationed in Germany for his first few years of elementary, and ever since then he has always wanted to go back. So we picked Berlin. Normally when we travel we look up bed and breakfast places, as most of the time, they are cheaper than hotels. I wanted to know more, hence the reason for this blog post.

Before looking at any data, I’m making a guess that more people rent out entire apartments or homes than people that rent only one private room. I say this because Most people travel with their families on vacation. That infers kids, and maybe grandparents. I wouldn’t think a lot of people go there alone, unless they are there for work reasons. Sometimes couples travel, and they could use private rooms, but for some reason I just think for a popular place like Berlin people would take their family.

Also, I don’t know about you, but I always look for good reviews before I stay somewhere. Especially with private owed Bed and Breakfast places. My other guess would be that people would be more likely to stay at your B&B if you had a lot of reviews.

The first thing I wanna look at when I look at my data is whether or not people tend to rent more whole houses/apt there, or do they tend to stick with renting out private rooms.

Room 1= Private Room, Room 2= Whole Apt/House

According to this first bar chart, I was wrong on my initial thoughts about thinking people prefer whole apt/homes to themselves. It seems more people just like the cheaper price of a private room. Sounds fair to me.

The next thing I was curious about was when there was the most reviews during the year. I compared the last review column to the number of reviews column. Giving me a good idea of when most people visit and review Berlin Bed and Breakfasts.

When Most People Visit And Review!

This bar graph shows the highest visiting and reviews time is October and November. I think that is partly expected with holidays, and all. The surprising part is that December hardly has any in comparison to October. I’m thinking weather may be a factor?

Based on the reviews above, I wanted to know what the price range people were renting at based on the current last reviews in this data set. I chose to use a boxplot to show that.

Prices Chosen Based on Last Review

This is a pretty interesting find really. It seems most people that reviewed were in cheaper rooms, ranging from 30 to 60 dollars. I can agree with this finding though, because people leave reviews for one or two reasons. They either loved it, or they had issues with it. I think in this case some of the lower priced ones could have a lot of negative reviews, while the higher priced ones, people may still visit a lot, but if they didn’t love it, they don’t review it.

In conclusion, If me and my husband were to visit Berlin, Germany, we would take some advise from this data search. We would go with a private room. Probably not expensive, but not cheap either. It would have to have plenty of reviews. You get what you pay for!
