Github as a Platform for Hosting and my Experience on it.

Github is a great platform where any user can host codes, manage project and build softwares along with millions of experienced developer but most of the developers who are new to github may not be knowing that github also has a great hosting capability i.e it’s a platform where any one can host their website for free of cost and also for unlimited time.

Steps for Hosting Your Website:

Anyone can host their website through github with just simple steps

step1: Go to Setting. Here, the name you keep will appear as your site name also shown in fig 2

Step 2: Scroll down and you will find github pages and just click master branch and save it.

Wait for a minute you will be getting a link if it didn’t appear just refresh it you will be getting the link. Open the link in new tab and boom your website is live share the link with your friends to show them your work.

Hosting Dynamic Website through Github: Github pages doesn’t have support for dynamic website. It only supports static website i.e website built on HTML, CSS and JS. The good thing is that you can place your php in other server then use github repo html, javascript and call the php via ajax to load content result so you can have a dynamic page in github.

Pros of Github Hosting over Web Hosting:
1. Its really simple to host in github then in web server. Within few steps we can create our repository and host it live then in web server where there are lots of step to be followed before hosting
2. Github is free of cost to host while in web server in order to built a
professional website we need to pay amounts
3. Github provides an unlimited scale and access for the website but that is not
the same for web server
4. Since github hosting will be for static website it will be more faster in
comparison with web server

Cons:
1. github pages are client side hosted page only as we cannot connect database to it(Here I am not talking about firebase)
2. github pages are less secure in comparison to web server
3.github doesn’t provide any cookies support
4. github doesn’t have good cache system
