Imagine seeing inside of a tornado or volcano. How about flying around the moon or even into Saturn’s rings? With Google Expeditions AR (Augmented Reality) it’s possible!
Kreinhop Elementary was given the opportunity to explore with this new technology not yet available to the public. Using a beta version of the app, students used devices brought in from Google to not only learn, but to immerse themselves into several wonders of the universe that are not easily accessible.
All 3rd-5th grade classes visited the Kreinhop Learning Commons throughout the day. Their teachers guided them through the exploration as they explained what they were experiencing. The buzz of excitement and learning was a beautiful sound heard all day to anyone walking through the Kreinhop hallways. If you asked any of our learners what they were doing, they could explain in detail that they were exploring the phases of the moon or looking at how tectonic plates shift.
Technology is the fastest growing industry at this moment, and for Google to create programs such as this to enhance our learners’ curiosity and enrichment is amazing. I can’t wait to see other schools experience Google Expeditions AR and to discuss how we can incorporate it into lessons in the future. Above all, I look forward to seeing how students use it to empower their learning.
